Connecticut DOT announces final public meetings for I-84 New Mix Waterbury PEL Study

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) has announced a final series of public meetings for the I-84 New Mix Waterbury Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) Study, set to occur in March and April. These meetings are intended to present findings from the study and gather community feedback.

"The purpose of the New Mix Program is to address the long-term needs of the Interstate 84 and Route 8 interchange, which has long been a vital structure a part of the greater Waterbury transportation system," said Connecticut Department of Transportation Project Manager Jonathan Dean. "The New Mix team will be sharing results from the study, including recommendations and final alternatives, reimagining the future of the Mixmaster. We encourage the local community use this opportunity to share feedback and ask questions regarding the program."

Two in-person open houses are scheduled: one on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at John F. Kennedy High School located at 422 Highland Ave; another on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Maloney Elementary School at 233 S Elm St. Attendees will have a chance to win $25 gift cards through drawings.

A virtual meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, from 12:00-1:30 p.m., accessible via Zoom registration or live-streamed on the New Mix YouTube Channel without registration required. Non-English closed captioning will be available during this session. A question and answer session will follow the online presentation.

For those with limited internet access, participation in the virtual meeting can be done by calling (877) 853-5257 with Meeting ID 933 7657 1029 or by requesting project information through mail by contacting Jonathan Dean at jonathan.dean@ct.gov or (860) 594-3211.

Language assistance is available upon request through CTDOT's Language Assistance Call Line at (860) 594-2109 with no cost to participants if requested five business days before meetings.
