Riders of the Metro-North New Canaan Branch Line will face changes in their weekend travel plans due to scheduled track work. The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) has announced that substitute bus services will replace all train services for the first two weekends of April. Regular train services will resume on Monday, April 7 and Monday, April 14, starting with the 5:30 a.m. train from New Canaan and the 8:16 a.m. train from Stamford.

This work involves the construction of a new siding track at the Springdale station, which will allow trains traveling in opposite directions to pass each other. A significant part of the operation includes six on-track borings between Riverbend Drive South and the Noroton River Bridge to lay the groundwork for retaining walls.

Rail travelers are advised to pre-purchase tickets using the MTA eTix app or through ticket vending machines available at most New Haven Line stations. Further details on using the MTA eTix app can be found at mta.info/mta-etix.

The MTA has provided several channels for service updates. These include the “Service Status” box at new.MTA.info for definitive information on line statuses, email and text alerts available through MyMTAAlerts.com, and the TrainTime app, which offers real-time train locations updated every three seconds in six languages.

At station platforms, the MTA will also share updates via digital signs, public address systems, and onboard crew announcements.

For direct telephone inquiries, Connecticut riders can call (877) 690-5114, while the New York State Travel Information Line is 511. Deaf or hard-of-hearing customers can use the 711 relay service to connect with MTA services through 511.
