Mega Millions, the national lottery game known for awarding substantial jackpots, is set to undergo significant changes in April 2025. The revamped game will offer improved odds and larger jackpots more frequently. Players will also benefit from a randomly selected Multiplier that can increase non-jackpot prizes by up to ten times. Additionally, all wins will deliver a prize at least double the cost per play.

Frank Suarez, President and CEO of the Connecticut Lottery Corporation (CLC), stated, "As we continue to innovate and enhance the player experience, we are excited to introduce new changes to the Mega Millions game. These adjustments not only increase the jackpot potential but also provide more ways for players to win, bringing even greater excitement and opportunity to the millions who participate."

The updated game will cost $5 per play when it launches next month. This is only the second price adjustment since Mega Millions began over two decades ago and marks the first change since 2017.

Since its inception in 2002, Mega Millions has made over 1,200 players millionaires following its last major update in 2017. Tickets are available in 45 states as well as Washington D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings occur twice weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays at 11 p.m. Eastern Time in Atlanta.

The current overall odds of winning any prize in Mega Millions stand at 1 in 24.0 with jackpot odds at 1 in 302,575,350. The upcoming changes will improve these odds to 1 in 23.07 overall and jackpot odds of 1 in 290,472,336.

The CLC operates as a quasi-public state agency aiming to generate revenue for Connecticut while adhering to high standards of public policy and social responsibility. In fiscal year 2024 alone, lottery players won over $1 billion while retailers earned more than $85 million in commissions.

Since its start in 1972, contributions from the lottery have exceeded $11 billion towards Connecticut's General Fund supporting public health, education, safety services among others.

The CLC advises that lottery purchasers must be at least 18 years old while sports wagers require a minimum age of 21 years old. Assistance for problem gambling is available through helplines or online resources.
