The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is extending its support for the Transit Royale app, offering riders free access to the premium version starting February 14, 2025. This initiative allows users to plan trips on buses and trains, track real-time locations, and use mobile ticketing in selected areas.

Initially launched in February 2023, Connecticut was one of only two states providing this service statewide. The app is available for free on both iOS and Android platforms. It offers features such as access to routes beyond a user's immediate area without a paywall, customizable themes and icons for favorite locations, and a leaderboard where users can earn points by sharing real-time trip information.

Benjamin Limmer, Connecticut Department of Transportation Bureau Chief of Public Transportation, stated: “We’re proud to have been providing Connecticut public transportation customers with the premium version of Transit app for three years. The Transit Royale app provides a valuable resource for trip planning, real-time information, mobile ticketing, and customer-agency communication that we strive to improve upon each year.”

In 2024, approximately 90,000 unique users accessed the app each month in Connecticut. Users opened the app over 38 million times with around 5 million trips planned during the year. The quarterly Ridership Happiness Benchmark surveys consistently ranked Connecticut's transit services among the top ten in North America.

Looking forward to 2025, CTtransit customers will be able to view planned detours and temporary route changes directly through the app.
