Bryan Hurlburt Commissioner | Connecticut Department of Agriculture
On January 27, 2025, the White House Office of Management and Budget announced a temporary pause on all activities related to federal financial assistance. This order was set to take effect at 5:00 p.m. on January 28, 2025. However, an update later in the day indicated that a federal district judge blocked the funding freeze until February 3, 2025.
The Lamont administration expressed significant concern regarding this federal decision to halt spending on grants and loans. In response, the Connecticut Department of Agriculture (CT DoAg) is actively monitoring the situation and assessing potential impacts. They are also maintaining communication with federal partners and Connecticut's congressional delegation to devise strategies to protect essential programs.
Despite the uncertainty, CT DoAg will continue its operations as normal. The department plans to evaluate how individual programs might be affected once more information becomes available. Their commitment remains steadfast in ensuring access to programs vital for food security, market development, and animal health within Connecticut's agricultural community.
CT DoAg's mission is focused on fostering a healthy climate for agriculture by supporting agricultural businesses, protecting resources, enforcing relevant laws, and promoting understanding of agriculture's role in Connecticut's economy.
