The Yale women’s track and field team competed in two separate meets on April 17, with heptathletes participating at the University of Connecticut and runners competing at Wake Forest.
These competitions are important for the team’s development as athletes seek to improve their standings in school history and prepare for upcoming events.
At the Wake Forest Invitational, senior Linde Fonville achieved a significant milestone by running the 1500 meters in 4:19.72. This performance moved her into fifth place on Yale’s all-time list for that event, surpassing Kate Grace’s previous mark of 4:20.77. Fonville finished second in her race, just behind Ohio’s Ellie Greenwell who clocked a time of 4:16.92. Earlier in the day, junior Daniella Henderson finished second in another section of the 1500 meters with a time of 4:27.57.
Meanwhile, at the UConn Northeast Challenge, seniors Makayla White and Alyssa Anderson began competition in the heptathlon. After four events, White was fifth overall with 2822 points while Anderson was seventh with 2455 points; UConn’s Ruby Tillson led with a total of 3304 points after day one. In individual heptathlon events, White placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.15 seconds), fourth in high jump (1.53 meters), third in shot put (10.19 meters), and fifth in the 200 meters (25.93 seconds). Anderson finished just behind White throughout several events.
Both Anderson and White are scheduled to complete their heptathlon competition on Saturday with three remaining events: long jump, javelin throw, and an 800-meter run.
In addition to these performances away from home, Yale will host its own Mark Young Invitational on Saturday.
