The Yale women’s tennis team will compete against Texas Tech in the first round of the 2026 NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championship, according to an announcement on Apr. 27. The match is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, in Austin, Texas, and will be hosted by No. 9 Texas.
This appearance follows Yale’s successful season, where the Bulldogs finished with a record of 19–3 overall and a conference mark of 6–1. The team secured a share of the Ivy League Championship—its first since 2013—and earned the league’s automatic bid to the national tournament. Their performance included an undefeated home record and a four-match winning streak at the end of Ivy League play.
Recognition for Yale’s achievements came through several postseason awards within the Ivy League. Head coach Rachel Sapir-Kahan and her staff were named Coaching Staff of the Year. Leena Friedman was honored as Rookie of the Year, while Orly Ogilvy, Friedman, and Shyla Aggarwal received All-Ivy recognition for their contributions during the season.
Texas Tech enters the matchup with an overall record of 18-10 and went 7-6 in Big 12 competition this year. The Lady Raiders are ranked No. 28 nationally by ITA rankings but recently lost to No. 23 TCU in their conference semifinals.
Yale will look to build on its championship momentum as it prepares for its opening-round contest at this year’s NCAA Tournament.
