The Yale women’s tennis team received major postseason recognition from the Ivy League after winning its first league title in 13 years, according to an April 23 announcement. Head Coach Rachel Sapir-Kahan and her staff were named Coaching Staff of the Year, while Leena Friedman was awarded Rookie of the Year. Three team members also earned All-Ivy honors.
These achievements highlight a season in which Yale captured the Ivy League championship and secured an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships with a 4–2 win over Penn. The Bulldogs finished with a 19–3 overall record and went 6–1 in league play, marking their most victories since the 2011–12 season.
Orly Ogilvy was selected for First Team All-Ivy honors in singles and, together with Friedman, also earned First Team recognition in doubles. Friedman additionally received Second Team singles honors alongside Shyla Aggarwal, who was also named Academic All-Ivy. Sapir-Kahan’s coaching staff includes assistant coach Lindsay Hung and volunteer assistant coach Michelle Hyun.
Friedman had a strong debut season at Yale as the highest-ranked first-year player competing at No. 2 singles, finishing with a spring record of 10–4 that included four wins against Ivy opponents. Ogilvy earned First Team All-Ivy status for the third consecutive year while competing at No. 1 singles and recorded key victories against top players from Princeton.
The doubles team of Ogilvy and Friedman posted an impressive spring record of 11–7 at No. 1 doubles, highlighted by wins over Stanford and Princeton as well as an undefeated run at ECACs. They made program history by becoming Yale’s first doubles pair to reach the NCAA quarterfinals during the fall season.
Aggarwal excelled both academically and athletically this year, earning Second Team honors for her performance on court while maintaining high academic standards as an Economics major.
