The Yale softball team lost to Princeton 8-0 in the opening game of their series, according to an April 17 announcement. The defeat brings Yale’s overall record to 13-26 and their Ivy League record to 4-12, while Princeton improves to 25-10 overall and remains undefeated at 13-0 in conference play.

The outcome highlights the challenges Yale faces this season as they compete within a strong Ivy League field. The Bulldogs struggled offensively against the Tigers’ pitching and were unable to score during the game.

Princeton scored two runs on three hits in the second inning. In the fifth inning, after scoring on an outfield error, Princeton added a three-run home run that increased their lead significantly. By the sixth inning, Julia Dumais of Princeton hit a two-RBI single, pushing the final score to eight runs for the Tigers.

Despite the loss, pitcher Ellie Joseph contributed with four strikeouts over four and one-third innings for Yale. Libby Peoples and Isabella Fortini each recorded hits for the Bulldogs during the game.

Looking ahead, Yale is set to host Princeton again for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 18. Before those games begin, Yale will honor its four-member senior class: captain Emma Taylor, Libby Peoples, Ava Kang, and Mariah Niday.
