The No. 37 Yale men’s tennis team lost to No. 38 Princeton, 4-1, on April 18 at the Lenz Tennis Center in Princeton, New Jersey.
The match was important for both teams as they are closely ranked and competing in the Ivy League. The outcome could influence their standings as the regular season nears its end.
Princeton secured an early advantage by winning the doubles point. Paul Inchauspe and Top Nidunjianzan of Princeton defeated Vignesh Gogineni and Edward Liao of Yale, while Meecah Bigun and Sebastian Sec from Princeton overcame Eric Li and Ethan Chung from Yale. The remaining doubles match between Dylan Tsoi/Jason Shuler (Yale) and Evan Wen/Aleksandar Mitric (Princeton) was left unfinished with a score of 5-5.
In singles play, Inchauspe beat Gogineni in three sets (6-3, 2-6, 6-3), Nidunjianzan defeated Liao (6-2, 6-4), and Mitric won against Li (3-6, 6-4, 6-1). Several matches were unfinished when the overall result was decided: Sec versus Shuler stood at one set each with Sec leading in the third set; Jim Ji of Yale trailed Milan Markovits of Princeton late in their final set. Dylan Tsoi provided Yale’s only singles win by defeating Jordan Reznik (6-4, 6-3).
The Bulldogs will conclude their regular season against Penn on Sunday, April 19 at 1 p.m.
Looking ahead, this final matchup will determine how Yale finishes its conference schedule before any postseason play.
