The Yale men’s lacrosse team will play against Princeton in the Ivy League Tournament semifinals on Friday, May 1. The game, which will be televised on ESPNU, comes after Yale’s recent comeback win over Brown and marks their sixth consecutive victory.
This matchup is significant as it determines which team advances to the tournament championship scheduled for Sunday, May 3. Yale enters the contest as the No. 3 seed and is ranked ninth nationally, while Princeton holds the No. 2 seed and is currently ranked second in national polls.
In their last game, Peter Moynihan scored a decisive goal with just over a minute remaining to secure a 14-13 win against Brown. Connor Gately led with four goals and contributed defensively with ground balls and caused turnovers. Sean Grogan also had a strong performance with two goals and an assist.
The Bulldogs have demonstrated consistent offensive power this season, ranking second nationally in man-up offense efficiency and maintaining double-digit goal totals since their loss to Penn. Ben Friedman has anchored the defense with an average of nearly thirteen saves per game.
Princeton arrives at the semifinal after clinching a share of the Ivy League regular season title alongside Cornell following a win over Dartmouth. The Tigers are led offensively by Nate Kabiri and Chad Palumbo; Palumbo was recently drafted into professional lacrosse as the first Ivy League player selected this year.
When these teams last met on March 14, Princeton narrowly defeated Yale by one goal despite a late comeback effort from the Bulldogs. The upcoming semifinal presents another opportunity for Yale to challenge its rival for a spot in Sunday’s championship.
