The Yale heavyweight crew team lost to Dartmouth in a series of races held on May 2 at Lake Morey, according to the university. Dartmouth won all the races, including the first varsity boat race for the Olympic Axe, marking its second consecutive victory over Yale.

The competition included four 2,000-meter races featuring each school’s top four varsity boats. The first varsity teams competed specifically for the Olympic Axe trophy. Dartmouth had previously won this event for the first time in 2025.

Dartmouth’s fourth and fifth varsity boats finished ahead of Yale’s fourth varsity in the opening race. In subsequent events, Dartmouth also secured an eight-second win over Yale in the third varsity race. The Bulldogs remained competitive in both the first and second varsity races but were ultimately defeated by margins of 2.9 seconds and 3.5 seconds respectively.

Full results from all events can be found on Yale’s athletics website.

Yale will now focus on preparing for its next major competition at the Eastern Sprints Championships scheduled to take place in Worcester, Massachusetts on May 17.
