The Yale baseball team secured a doubleheader sweep over Cornell on April 18, winning the first game 16-5 and the second game 6-3. The victories improved Yale’s record to 22-11 overall and 11-4 in Ivy League play, placing them at the top of the conference standings with six league games remaining. Cornell fell to a 7-23 overall record and is now 5-10 in Ivy League competition.
This series was important for both teams as they approach the final stretch of their conference schedule. For Yale, these wins strengthen their position as leaders in the Ivy League, while Cornell continues to search for momentum late in the season.
In game one, junior Kaiden Dossa reached base three times and scored three runs while also driving in three more. Sophomore Jack Dauer went two-for-four with three runs batted in. Junior Ben Winslow earned his first save of the season by pitching three scoreless innings at the end of the game. The Bulldogs scored four runs early in the first inning and continued adding throughout, including key hits from Jackson Hays, Garrett Larsen, Colin Sloan, and Davis Hanson.
Dossa extended his on-base streak to 25 games during this contest, while Larsen recorded his seventeenth multi-hit game of the year. Dauer leads Yale with thirty-seven RBIs this season.
In game two, senior Tate Evans delivered eight strong innings on the mound for Yale, allowing only three earned runs while striking out five batters over a career-high one hundred nine pitches. The Bulldogs built an early lead with hits from Dossa, Dauer, Sloan and Larsen before Hanson hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning. Teo Spadaccini closed out Cornell by pitching a perfect ninth inning for his second save of the year.
Looking ahead, Yale will face Sacred Heart on Wednesday, April 22.
