The Yale baseball team clinched a place in the Ivy League Tournament for the second consecutive year following a doubleheader against Columbia in New York City on April 26. The Bulldogs lost the first game 9-8 on a walk-off single, while the second game ended in a 15-15 tie after being called due to darkness.
This outcome ensures Yale’s postseason participation and maintains their third-place standing in the conference with an overall record of 23-13-1 and an Ivy League record of 11-6-1. Columbia now holds fourth place with an overall record of 13-21-1 and an Ivy mark of 8-8-1, trailing Penn and Brown at the top of the standings.
Junior Kaiden Dossa was highlighted as a key performer for Yale, finishing the day with six hits, seven runs batted in, five runs scored, three stolen bases, and two home runs across both games. “Dossa recorded his first multi-home run game of his career” according to information from Yale Athletics. Jack Dauer also contributed by driving in two runs during game one and currently leads the team with 44 RBIs this season.
In game one, Yale built an early lead but saw it erased by Columbia’s late-inning rally capped by Owen Estabrook’s walk-off hit. In game two, despite falling behind by eight runs at one point, Yale staged a comeback that included back-to-back home runs from Dossa and multiple doubles in the ninth inning to tie before play was halted due to lack of light.
Yale will next face Central Connecticut State University on Tuesday, April 28 for a non-conference matchup as they prepare for postseason play.
