The Yale baseball team lost to Cornell 5-3 in an Ivy League game on April 17. The match was the first of a three-game series played on the road.
This result brings Yale’s record to 20-11 overall and 9-4 in conference play, while Cornell improves to a 7-21 overall record and is now 5-8 in the Ivy League.
The Bulldogs opened scoring with a sacrifice fly by Chris DiPrima. Cornell responded with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, including an RBI double by TJ Swidorski. In the third inning, Yale regained the lead after DiPrima was hit by a pitch with bases loaded and Jack Dauer hit a sacrifice fly. However, Cornell tied it up again with a solo home run from Trent Lopez in the fourth inning and took back the lead with an RBI single from Caden Wildman in the fifth. The Big Red added another run on a fielder’s choice by Wildman in the seventh.
Junior Kaiden Dossa collected two hits for Yale and reached base three times, extending his on-base streak to 24 games. Garrett Larsen added another hit and has now hit safely in 24 out of Yale’s 31 games this season. Senior Daniel Cohen started as pitcher for Yale, throwing for just over four innings before being relieved by Ben Winslow and Brett Faccio.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to continue their series against Cornell with a doubleheader starting at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 18.
