The University of Connecticut men’s and women’s track and field teams will travel to Philadelphia for the 130th running of the Penn Relays, taking place from Thursday through Saturday at Franklin Field, according to an April 22 announcement.
The Penn Relays is one of the most historic meets in collegiate track and field, drawing top athletes from across the country. The Huskies are set to participate in a wide range of events over all three days.
On Thursday, Orenthal Singletary will represent the men’s team in the championship division 400-meter hurdles. Marshall Potter, Alex Krause, and Lucas DeCrescenzo are scheduled for the hammer throw. For the women’s team, Sascha Letica is entered in the championship division 5000 meters while Chloe Trudel will run in the championship division 10,000 meters. Jessica Starr and Kiley Shatzel will compete in the women’s championship division 400-meter hurdles with Sarah Trainor running in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Gabriela DeFelice is also slated for action in the hammer throw.
Friday’s events feature William Watson and Mohamed Wahdan competing in both individual sprints as well as relay races such as the men’s 4×100 meter relay, 4×400 meter relay, and distance medley relays. In field events that day, Derek Shimer will be high jumping while Wyatt Martin takes on pole vault duties; Emi Erekosima enters triple jump; Potter joins Nicholas Connolly for shot put; Krause pairs again with Connolly for discus.
For UConn women on Friday: Brooklyn Taylor runs hurdles while several teams line up for various relays including spring medley. Field competitors include Kaylee Meyer (high jump), Rachel Mason (pole vault), Piper Linn (pole vault), Abigail Bernas (pole vault), Katie Floering (pole vault), Maresa Hense (long jump), Jaidah (long jump) and Matilda Brockley (triple jump). Throwers Sinclaire Fryer, Ella Karp and Brook-lynn Roberts take part in shot put; DeFelice competes again—this time in discus—and Caitlin Dumouchel throws javelin.
Saturday concludes competition with Enaji Muhammad entering men’s high jump championship division while Thomas Bannon and Connor Hayford throw javelin.
