UConn track and field concludes Northeast Challenge with strong performances

The University of Connecticut track and field teams concluded the two-day Northeast Challenge on April 18 at the George J. Sherman Family Complex, marking their second outdoor meet of the season.

The event saw notable achievements from both men’s and women’s squads. Medwin Odamtten won the men’s 100-meter dash with a time of 10.37 seconds and also achieved a personal best in the 200 meters, finishing fifth at 21.37 seconds. Del Lindsay set a personal record in the men’s 400 meters by placing second with a time of 47.36 seconds, while Noah Colangelo finished sixth in that event.

Gabriel Cuffey secured second place in the men’s 800 meters, setting a new personal best at 1:49.97, and Christian Menounos took first place in the men’s 1500 meters with a time of 3:52.25. The relay team comprising Peyton Butler, Gabriel Cuffey, TJ Jaravaza, and Del Lindsay won the men’s 4×400 meter relay in a time of 3:09.79.

In women’s events, Brooklyn Taylor finished second in both the women’s long jump (5.90m) and the women’s 100-meter hurdles (13.61 seconds). Anna Connors placed second in the women’s 200 meters (24.08 seconds) and third in the women’s 400 meters (54.44 seconds). Jessica Starr claimed victory in the women’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.63 seconds.

Field events featured wins from Marshall Potter (men’s hammer throw), Enaji Muhammad (men’s high jump), Thomas Bannon (men’s javelin), and Dar Jankovic (decathlon). On the women’s side, Gabriela DeFelice earned second place finishes in discus and fourth place finishes in hammer throw; Rachel Mason took second place for pole vault; while Ruby Tillson led UConn to sweep all top four spots in heptathlon.

Looking ahead, UConn is scheduled to compete at next weekend’s Penn Relays beginning Thursday, April 23.
