The University of Connecticut softball team will begin its run at the 2026 BIG EAST Tournament against Creighton on May 7. The Huskies, seeded second, are set to play the third-seeded Bluejays at the Parkway Bank Sports Complex in Chicago. The game is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. EST start and will be streamed on ESPN+.
This tournament appearance marks the fifth consecutive season that UConn enters as a top two seed. Under head coach Laura Valentino, now in her seventh year, the Huskies finished their regular season strong by winning seven of their last eight games and securing a share of the BIG EAST Regular Season title for the third time during her tenure. In April and early May, UConn posted a record of 15-3 and swept three out of their last five conference series.
Five players from UConn received recognition from BIG EAST coaches in year-end awards. Cat Petteys was named BIG EAST Player of the Year, becoming the third straight Husky to earn this honor, and also secured an All-BIG EAST First Team selection alongside Jessica Walter who received her first career all-conference honors. Caprice Bohmer, Kaitlyn Kibling, and Savannah Ring were selected for the All-BIG EAST Second Team as first-time honorees.
Creighton enters as the number three seed with a record of 29-25 overall and went 17-7 in league play under head coach Krista Wood’s leadership in her fourth season. The Bluejays had six players receive All-BIG EAST honors including Freshman of the Year Keegan Mayhue and three-time Defensive Player of the Year Ashten Pierson.
UConn holds a favorable history against Creighton in postseason play since 2024 with three wins out of four meetings between these teams at this tournament. Last year, UConn defeated Creighton twice—once in the semifinal (12-1) and again in the championship game (18-4)—to secure its eighth BIG EAST Tournament title. During this regular season series between both teams held in Storrs, UConn won two out of three games; overall they lead their all-time series against Creighton by seventeen wins to six.
