The University of Connecticut men’s and women’s track and field teams won the 2026 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship on May 16 at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs. The Huskies finished the three-day meet with a total of 43 medals, including 11 gold, 18 silver, and 14 bronze.

This achievement marks the fifth consecutive season that both UConn teams have swept the BIG EAST Indoor and Outdoor championships. The men’s team scored 273.5 points to lead a nine-team field, setting a new conference record for consecutive outdoor titles with their sixth straight championship. DePaul placed second with 134 points, while Georgetown was third with 97 points.

On the women’s side, UConn secured its fifth-straight outdoor title by earning 212 points—the second highest total in program history—topping a ten-team field. DePaul finished second with 184 points, followed by St. John’s at third place with 127 points. This ties UConn women for the BIG EAST record for consecutive titles previously set by Louisville from 2008 to 2012.

Head coach Beth Alford-Sullivan led both programs to their respective victories, making this senior class undefeated throughout their careers at UConn and giving the Huskies their sixteenth straight conference championship under her leadership. Alford-Sullivan and her staff were named Men’s and Women’s BIG EAST Coaching Staffs of the Year.

Junior Josh Mooney was recognized as the BIG EAST Most Outstanding Field Performer after winning gold in pole vault, silver in javelin, and first place in the 110-meter hurdles for a total of twenty-eight points during the meet. Junior Medwin Odamtten received honors as Outstanding Track Performer after winning gold medals in both the men’s one-hundred-meter dash (with a preliminary round conference record time of ten-point-two-two seconds) and four-by-one-hundred relay along with a silver medal in two-hundred meters.

The men’s team has now claimed all six outdoor titles since rejoining the conference in twenty-twenty-one—a tally that brings them to ten overall league championships (1982–2026). The women’s program earned its seventh all-time title (1986–2026).

Other notable performances included podium sweeps by UConn athletes in several events such as men’s one-hundred-ten-meter hurdles and javelin throw; multiple relay medals; personal bests across sprints; strong showings from freshmen like Thomas Bannon (javelin) and Marshall Potter (discus); plus additional medals earned across jumps, throws, sprints, hurdles, relays on both sides.
