The UConn baseball team will resume BIG EAST conference play with a road series at Seton Hall beginning Friday, May 8. The three-game set will continue on Saturday and conclude on Sunday.
This series is significant as the Huskies have six conference games remaining and are currently tied for third place with Xavier. Both teams are one game behind St. John’s and Creighton, who hold the top spots in the standings, and two games ahead of Butler for the final berths in the BIG EAST Championship. UConn holds tiebreakers over Butler, Creighton, and Xavier after winning previous series against those teams.
Strong starting pitching has been a key factor for UConn this season. The team’s starters have combined for 20 quality starts so far, compared to just six last year. Cayden Suchy leads the BIG EAST in strikeouts with 98, followed by Charlie West with 91; both rank among national leaders as well. Oliver Pudvar has delivered four consecutive quality starts—three in conference play—and his six wins tie him for first in the league alongside Charlie Hale and others.
Offensively, Jackson Marshall leads UConn with a .373 batting average, along with 16 doubles, 13 home runs, and 50 runs batted in.
Seton Hall’s lineup is led by Ryan Frontera (.333 average) and Gabe Cavazzoni (.313 average), who also has a team-high of 14 doubles and 27 RBI. Aiden Dill leads the BIG EAST with 22 stolen bases this season.
Historically, UConn holds a narrow edge over Seton Hall at 52-48 all-time but has dominated since rejoining the BIG EAST in 2021 by winning fifteen of sixteen meetings. Last season saw UConn sweep Seton Hall at home—including an extra-inning win highlighted by Bryan Padilla’s game-tying RBI single and Rob Rispoli’s walk-off hit.
