The University of Connecticut baseball team clinched a spot in the BIG EAST Championship after defeating Seton Hall 13-1 on May 9.
The victory ensures UConn’s participation in the conference championship, an important milestone for the team as it continues its season. The Huskies now hold a record of 29-22 overall and 12-5 in BIG EAST play.
UConn took an early lead in the second inning, beginning with a solo home run by Maddix Dalena. Additional runs were scored on two-out singles from Chase Taylor and Peyton Jemison. A rain delay interrupted play in the third inning, but once action resumed, UConn extended its advantage significantly during a nine-run fifth inning that saw 14 batters come to the plate. Jackson Marshall contributed two two-run doubles, while Nater Wachter (RBI double), Chris Polemeni (two-run single), Chase Taylor (RBI single), and Anthony Belisario (RBI single) also drove in runs.
Charlie Hale earned his seventh win of the season after replacing Cayden Suchy following an injury during the third inning. Hale pitched for 5.2 innings, allowing just one run and striking out seven batters.
Looking ahead, UConn will attempt to complete a road series sweep against Seton Hall on Sunday at noon.
