The University of Connecticut baseball team won against the University of Rhode Island, 9-5, at Dunkin’ Park on April 22. The Huskies improved their record to 22-20 while the Rams fell to 15-24.
The game was notable for Jackson Marshall’s performance, as he recorded his first career four-hit game and drove in three runs for UConn. Sophomore Anthony Belisario continued his strong play with a two-hit night, scoring three runs and stealing a career-high three bases after having just two hits before Saturday’s doubleheader.
UConn started quickly by scoring three runs in the first inning, marking their highest total in an opening frame this season. The team also set a season-high with five stolen bases during the game—three by Belisario and two by Rob Rispoli.
Pitcher Charlie Hale earned his fifth win of the year in a midweek start. Frank Spirito IV pitched a career-high 2.1 innings out of the bullpen, while Paxton Meyers secured his fourth save with 2.2 shutout innings.
Looking ahead, UConn will travel to face Georgetown starting Friday, April 24 at 6 p.m.
