The University of Connecticut baseball team secured a 7-3 victory over Seton Hall on May 10, completing a series sweep and improving their record to 30-22 overall and 13-5 in the BIG EAST Conference.
The win places UConn in a tie for first place in the BIG EAST standings alongside St. John’s and Xavier. The result also marks the Huskies’ seventh consecutive conference win and their eighth straight road victory within the league.
Oliver Pudvar earned his seventh win of the season after pitching six innings, allowing nine hits but just two runs, and striking out five batters. Greg Shaw III closed out the game with three innings of relief to secure his third save of the year. Maddix Dalena contributed an early RBI single, while Chris Polemeni delivered a grand slam in the third inning that gave UConn a lead they would not relinquish.
Additional runs came from a sacrifice fly by Nater Wachter and another RBI single by Polemeni in the fourth inning. Jackson Marshall reached base five times during Sunday’s game, extending his streak to 41 consecutive games reaching base.
Under head coach Jim Penders, this is the twentieth time in twenty-three seasons that UConn has achieved at least thirty wins; only the shortened 2020 season interrupted this pattern. Since rejoining the BIG EAST Conference in 2021, UConn has won eighteen out of nineteen games against Seton Hall.
Looking ahead, UConn will play four home games next week starting with Northeastern on Tuesday, May 12.
