James Jones, Joel E. Smilow ’54 Head Coach of Men’s Basketball, announced on Apr. 16 that Trevor Mullin will serve as captain for the Yale Bulldogs men’s basketball team next season.
The appointment is significant as it recognizes Mullin’s leadership and contributions during his junior year. He played a key role for the team, starting in nearly every game and helping lead the Bulldogs to important victories.
“Trevor did an outstanding job, imposing his leadership on our program as our junior point guard,” said Jones. “I welcome his senior version and I’m looking forward to him taking the next steps as our captain.”
Mullin averaged 11.5 points per game last season and was one of five players on the team to reach double figures in scoring. He appeared in all 31 games, making 30 starts, and scored at least ten points in 17 contests. His top performance came with a career-high 23 points during an overtime win against Howard. Mullin also surpassed the 20-point mark four times, including during both Ivy Madness semifinal and championship games where he earned All-Tournament honors. As point guard, he ranked third on the team with a total of 85 assists.
“It truly is an honor to be selected as captain,” said Mullin. “I’ve learned a great deal from my previous captains, Nick Townsend, Mateo Rice, and August Mahoney, and I hope to follow in their footsteps as best I can. I’m grateful to be leading alongside my fellow senior, Jeannot Basima, and together we will continue striving for the excellence this program has shown in years past. We have a strong group of returners, and we’re excited for next season.”
