Three University of Connecticut softball players were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) East All-Region teams on May 14. Cat Petteys and Jessica Walter earned second team recognition, while Kaitlyn Breslin was selected for the third team.
These honors highlight the individual achievements of Huskies athletes during a competitive season. Recognition by the NFCA places these student-athletes among top performers in their region.
Sophomore shortstop Cat Petteys received her second consecutive NFCA All-Region honor. Last year, she was a third team honoree. This season, Petteys led her team in several categories including batting average (.397), hits (73), doubles (16), home runs (19), runs batted in (58), and runs scored (60). She started all 57 games at shortstop and was named BIG EAST Player of the Year. Her career total of 34 home runs ties for most in program history.
Graduate pitcher Jessica Walter was recognized on the second team for her performance this season, which included career highs in appearances (39), starts (18), wins (8), innings pitched (116.1), and strikeouts (72). Walter also recorded nine saves, ranking second nationally in Division I, and led her pitching staff with an earned run average of 3.31.
Junior outfielder Kaitlyn Breslin received third team honors after being named to the first team last year. Breslin hit double-digit home runs for a second straight year with 11 this season, bringing her career total to 27—fifth most in program history—and set personal bests with 56 RBIs and 11 doubles while starting every game in the outfield under head coach Laura Valentino.
