David X. Sullivan, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced on Mar. 23 that Danny Turkvan, also known as “Smooth,” of Stamford, has been charged with distributing crack cocaine after being sentenced in a previous federal case and before reporting to prison.
The case highlights concerns about defendants committing new offenses while out on bond pending their surrender to serve a sentence. Prosecutors allege that Turkvan continued his involvement in narcotics distribution despite having already received a prison sentence for his role in a southwestern Connecticut drug trafficking conspiracy.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Turkvan was sentenced on August 13, 2025, to 46 months of imprisonment and three years of supervised release. He had been released on a $150,000 bond and ordered to report to prison by October 16, 2025. Authorities say an investigation revealed that he continued distributing narcotics following his sentencing.
Stamford Police arrested Turkvan on state charges on October 11, 2025. Officers seized crack cocaine intended for distribution at the time of his arrest. On March 3, 2026, a federal grand jury indicted him for possession with intent to distribute cocaine base (crack), which carries up to twenty years in prison if convicted. The indictment also includes an additional charge for committing the offense while on pre-trial release—a violation carrying a mandatory consecutive term of up to ten years.
Turkvan has remained detained since his arrest and pleaded not guilty during an appearance yesterday in Bridgeport federal court.
The investigation is being conducted by the Stamford Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant U.S. Attorney Patricia Stolfi Collins is prosecuting the case.
