Sophia Fujita was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Year for the second straight season, according to an April 29 announcement from the conference office. John O’Connor, head coach of Quinnipiac Bobcats Women’s Golf, was also named Coach of the Year for a second consecutive season and fifth time overall.

These awards highlight continued success for both Fujita and O’Connor within the conference. The recognition comes after notable performances at this year’s MAAC Championship.

Fujita became the first player from Quinnipiac to win the McLeod Trophy in back-to-back seasons. She set a new tournament record with a three-round total score of 212, finishing four strokes under par. Her best round came on day two with a score of 69, which helped secure her second McLeod Trophy in as many years. In her two seasons at Quinnipiac, Fujita has twice been named to both the All-MAAC First Team and All-Championship Team. She has won two McLeod Trophies, two Player of the Year awards, one Rookie of the Year award, and led her team to two NCAA Tournament appearances.

O’Connor received his fifth Coach of the Year honor after guiding Quinnipiac to its seventh overall MAAC title and its second straight championship win.

The Quinnipiac Women’s Golf team will compete in this year’s NCAA Tournament. The team will learn their regional assignment during the Selection Show scheduled for April 29 at 4 p.m., which will be broadcast on Golf Channel.
