Connecticut State Senator Stephen Harding said on May 5 that the state’s March 2026 employment report showed a gain of only 100 jobs. Harding called the job growth numbers disappointing and questioned the focus of state lawmakers.
The topic is important because employment figures are seen as an indicator of economic health, and lawmakers’ priorities can affect policy decisions that impact residents’ livelihoods.
Harding said, “Weak. Paltry. Anemic. Where’s the job growth?” He criticized Connecticut Democrats at the State Capitol for focusing on what he described as “anti-cop bills” and measures affecting homeschooling families instead of economic issues.
“The Democrats’ priority isn’t growing our economy. Their priority isn’t lowering electricity bills, reducing taxes or lowering the cost of health care,” Harding said in his statement. He added, “And nothing is going to change until we have balance in Hartford.”
Harding concluded by saying, “Can’t afford Connecticut…can’t afford Connecticut Democrats.”
The statement reflects ongoing debates over legislative priorities in Hartford and comes as officials continue to monitor economic trends.
