State Senator Jeff Gordon said on May 17 that the recent large-scale law enforcement operation and criminal investigation in Tolland regarding alleged animal cruelty and illegal cockfighting activity were deeply concerning.

Gordon said many residents were shocked to learn about the scope of the criminal investigation taking place in their community. He thanked multiple agencies for their involvement, saying, “I want to thank the Connecticut State Police, Massachusetts State Police, the Connecticut Department of Agriculture, the Tolland Fire Department, Federal Agencies, and everyone involved in this operation for their professionalism, coordination, and hard work. Their efforts helped ensure this situation was handled safely and effectively, and their actions sent a clear message that this kind of criminal activity will not be tolerated in Tolland or anywhere in our state.”

He added that he had communicated with state and local officials to express his appreciation for their work and to offer assistance if needed. As a member of the Connecticut General Assembly’s Public Safety and Security Committee, Gordon said strong partnerships between agencies are essential during complex investigations such as this one.

“This operation demonstrated exactly why those partnerships matter,” Gordon said.

He concluded by thanking all those who worked throughout the day and night “to protect public safety and uphold the law.”
