Sacred Heart University’s women’s track and field team concluded the first day of competition at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships on May 9. Events began at 11:00 a.m. and continued until 7:00 p.m.
The day’s scoring started with the hammer throw, where Caroline Herlihy secured a podium finish by placing third overall with a mark of 47.33 meters, earning six points for Sacred Heart. Suzan Adekunle followed closely behind in fourth place with a mark of 46.62 meters, contributing to an overall total of eleven points from both athletes in this event.
In the long jump event, Sierra Thompson achieved another podium finish for Sacred Heart by placing third overall with a jump of 5.77 meters, adding five more points to the team’s score.
By the end of day one, Sacred Heart had accumulated a total of twenty-four points across all events. Several runners also qualified for finals scheduled for tomorrow, giving the team opportunities to increase their point total during day two of competition.
The Pioneers are set to return to action on day two of the MAAC Championships, with events scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
