Sacred Heart women’s tennis received several postseason awards in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, according to an April 23 announcement. Ava Nelson was named Co-Rookie of the Year, and multiple Pioneers earned recognition for their singles and doubles performances.
The recognition highlights Sacred Heart’s strong showing in the conference. The awards reflect both individual achievement and team consistency during the season.
Nelson led Sacred Heart with a 17-8 overall singles record and went 11-4 in dual matches. She was awarded First Team Singles after going 10-3 at #2 Singles, including a 6-1 mark in conference play. “Nelson becomes only the third woman in SHU women’s tennis to earn conference ‘Rookie of the Year’ honors,” according to the release.
In doubles competition, Olivia Zuba and Ola Irla Bartyzel were named First Team Doubles after posting a 9-4 overall record. Nelson also teamed with Malena del Olmo for another First Team Doubles honor, finishing with an 8-3 overall record. Bartyzel received additional recognition as a First Team All-MAAC singles player after recording a 14-10 overall mark.
Savita Bagirathan was honored on Third Team Singles following her season with a 14-11 overall record and strong results at #3 Singles late in the year.
With these accolades, Sacred Heart will next compete against Mount St. Mary’s in the MAAC Tournament semifinal round on Wednesday at Princeton University Racquet and Fieldhouse.
