The Sacred Heart University women’s tennis team lost a close 4–3 match to Mount St. Mary’s on Apr. 25 in the semifinal round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference at Princeton University Racquet and Fieldhouse.

This result ends Sacred Heart’s season, which saw the team double its win total from last year and finish with a 10-10 record.

Mount St. Mary’s took an early lead by winning the doubles point after victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions, while Olivia Zuba and Ola Irla Bartyzel secured a win at first doubles for Sacred Heart with a score of 6–4.

In singles play, Bartyzel won convincingly at No. 1 singles (6–1, 6–4), Ava Nelson added another point with her own strong performance at No. 2 singles (6-2, 6-3), and Zuba fought through for a hard-earned victory at No. 4 singles (6-4, 7-6 [4]). With the overall match tied at three points each, Mount St. Mary’s clinched their place in the final by taking straight sets in the decisive No. 5 singles match.

The Pioneers’ season comes to an end after significant improvement over last year.
