The Sacred Heart women’s tennis team defeated Holy Cross 6-1 on Apr. 14 at the Sinnott Family Tennis Facility in Worcester, Massachusetts.
This win concludes the regular season for Sacred Heart and may impact their qualification for the upcoming Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament.
In doubles play, Ava Nelson and Ola Irla Bartyzel won at No. 1 doubles with a score of 6-1, while Savita Bagirathan and Brooke Tuffs secured another point at No. 2 doubles with an identical score. The Pioneers maintained momentum in singles matches, taking five out of six contests. Nelson recorded a strong performance at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Bagirathan followed closely with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.
Kiah James contributed to the team’s success by winning her match at No. 4 singles with scores of 6-1, 6-1. Kailin Gochna finished her match at No.5 singles with a result of 6-3, 6-1, while Tuffs closed out scoring for Sacred Heart by securing a victory at No. 6 singles (7-5, 6-3).
With this win concluded, the Pioneers will monitor other MAAC matches this weekend to determine if they qualify for the conference tournament held at Mercer County Tennis Courts.
