Sacred Heart women’s golf team in fourth after first round of MAAC Championship

The Sacred Heart University women’s golf team is in fourth place after the first round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship, which began on April 21 at Disney’s Magnolia Course in Bay Lake, Florida.

The championship features ten teams competing for the title. Sacred Heart finished the opening round with a team score of 310, or 22 over par, placing them four strokes behind third-place University at Albany. Quinnipiac leads at plus-11, followed by Fairfield at plus-13.

Nahia Paulerena led Sacred Heart with a score of 76 (+4), tying her for seventh place individually. The sophomore recorded ten pars and two birdies during her round. Maite Cantu and Jessie Burch followed closely behind with scores of 77 (+5) and 78 (+6), respectively; Cantu is tied for thirteenth and Burch for seventeenth on the leaderboard.

First-year players Maegan Pungsuwan and Garance Gueubel also contributed to the team’s performance. Pungsuwan carded a 79 (+7), tying for twenty-fourth place, while Gueubel shot an 81 (+9), finishing twenty-ninth after their first experience in a conference championship round.

The MAAC Championship will continue with its second round tomorrow at Disney’s Magnolia Course.
