Sacred Heart women’s golf finishes fourth at MAAC Championship

The Sacred Heart University women’s golf team finished in fourth place at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship, which concluded on Apr. 23 at Disney’s Magnolia Course in Bay Lake, Florida.

The team’s performance improved with each round of the tournament, culminating in a final-round score of 295 (+7), their best of the event. Sacred Heart posted scores of 310, 302, and 295 over three days for a total score of 907 (+43). Quinnipiac secured its second consecutive championship title with a final score of +21, finishing three strokes ahead of Fairfield.

Maite Cantu led Sacred Heart with a standout final-round score of 71 (-1), which helped her climb to a tie for eleventh place overall with a total score of 226 (+10). Nahia Paulerena also performed consistently throughout the tournament, recording rounds of 76 (+4) each day and finishing tied for fifteenth place at 228 (+12).

Teammates Maegan Pungsuwan and Jessie Burch both shot identical rounds each day and ended up tied for eighteenth place after posting scores of 229 (+13). First-year player Garance Gueubel contributed an even-par round (72) in the third round—the team’s second-best individual round—finishing tied for twentieth with a total score of 230 (+14).

With this result, Sacred Heart closes out its season having shown steady improvement across the championship rounds.
