The Sacred Heart University men’s golf team moved into second place after the second round of the 2026 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship on April 29 at Disney’s Magnolia Course in Bay Lake, Florida.
This development is significant as it positions Sacred Heart University within reach of the championship title, with only one round remaining. The team posted an even-par score of 288 for the day, bringing their total to 581 (+5), which allowed them to surpass Siena and trail Iona by six strokes.
Mike Rothberg led Sacred Heart with a two-day total of 143 (-1) after shooting rounds of 72 and 71. Rothberg recorded three birdies each day and reduced his bogey count in the second round, placing him tied for fourth individually, five shots behind the leader. Sho Suzuki made a notable leap up the leaderboard by carding a five-under-par round of 67—the best individual score through two rounds—and now sits tied for eleventh at a combined score of 146 (+2).
Pablo Lacayo follows closely behind Suzuki in thirteenth place with scores of 74 and 73 for a total of 147 (+3). Other competitors representing Sacred Heart include Ronan Mooney, who is tied for twenty-third at +7, and Yu Chan Ji Lim, tied for twenty-seventh at +8.
The final outcome will be determined during tomorrow’s third and concluding round. The team’s performance so far has put them in strong contention as they aim to close out the championship.
