Sacred Heart University men’s golf finishes second at MAAC Championship

The Sacred Heart University men’s golf team finished as runners-up at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship, according to an April 30 announcement. The Pioneers posted the best team score in the third round with a 291 (+3), bringing their final tally to 872 (+8) after three rounds.

This result marks the second consecutive season that Sacred Heart has finished in second place at the conference championship. The Pioneers mounted a strong comeback on the final day but were edged out by Iona, which secured first place with a total score of 868 (+4).

Pablo Lacayo and Mike Rothberg led Sacred Heart’s effort, each tying for sixth place individually with scores of 217 (+1). Lacayo shot a two-under-par 70 in the final round, moving up six spots on the leaderboard. Rothberg closed out his tournament with a two-over-par 74.

Ronan Mooney and Sho Suzuki also contributed to Sacred Heart’s performance, both finishing tied for thirteenth place at 222 (+6). Mooney recorded his best round of the event on the last day with a one-under-par 71, while Suzuki ended with a four-over-par 76. Yu Chan Ji Lim completed his second conference championship appearance by tying for thirty-fourth place with a score of 231 (+15).

The team’s strong showing in Bay Lake, Florida demonstrates its continued competitiveness within the MAAC and sets expectations for future seasons.
