Sacred Heart University’s men’s track and field team finished the first day of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships on May 9 after a full schedule of events in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
The results from the opening day are important for Sacred Heart as they set the stage for potential success in the final standings. The team earned a total of 33 points, positioning themselves to build on their performance during the second day of competition.
Hunter Bishop started off the scoring for Sacred Heart by placing fifth in the javelin throw with a mark of 55.60 meters, earning four points for his team. In pole vault, Francisco Amore secured fourth place with a height of 4.40 meters, contributing five points, while Benjamin Mandler followed closely behind in fifth place to add another four points.
Tyler Durang achieved third place in hammer throw with a distance of 56.65 meters and gained six points for Sacred Heart. Joshua Wood finished fifth in hammer throw at 52.68 meters, and Kristopher Chambers placed sixth with a mark of 52.51 meters; together these three athletes contributed thirteen points from this event alone.
With several runners qualifying for finals scheduled on day two, Sacred Heart aims to increase its point total as competition continues at the MAAC Championships starting at 10:00 a.m.
