The Sacred Heart University men’s tennis team was recognized on Apr. 23 by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, with Tomasz Garbacz named MAAC Rookie of the Year and selected for the MAAC Second Team Singles, while senior Frederick McRae earned Third Team Singles honors.
These awards highlight the progress made by Sacred Heart throughout the season. Recognition from the conference reflects individual achievements and improvements in team performance compared to previous years.
Garbacz contributed significantly during his first collegiate season, securing 10 singles victories overall. He performed well in conference matches with a 5-3 record at the #1 position. Garbacz is only the second player in Sacred Heart men’s tennis history to receive Rookie of the Year honors over a span of 32 years.
McRae also played an important role for Sacred Heart, achieving nine singles wins during the 2025-26 campaign. Competing at #2 singles, he recorded a 4-3 mark in MAAC play and finished strong by winning five of his last seven matches.
The team’s recognition comes as Sacred Heart improved its conference record from last season and included a notable win over Quinnipiac, who were crowned MAAC champions in late March.
