The Sacred Heart University men’s lacrosse team lost to Marist, 12-8, in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) semifinal on April 30.

The game was held at Siena and saw Sacred Heart, seeded third, finish its season with an overall record of 11-4 and a conference record of 5-3. Marist, the second seed, improved to a 10-4 overall record and will advance to the MAAC Championship.

Marist scored first in the match before Sacred Heart responded with goals from JJ Fox and John Murray to take an early lead. Dom Basti added another goal for Sacred Heart before Marist tied it up. The Pioneers then extended their lead with goals from Tim Kiely and Matt Pepe but were overtaken after Marist closed out the first half on a four-goal run.

In the third quarter, Sacred Heart was unable to score as Marist built up a five-goal advantage. Early in the fourth quarter, Will Moulton assisted John Murray on a behind-the-back goal that ended Sacred Heart’s scoring drought. Basti scored twice more for his hat trick, but Marist maintained its lead through late goals.
