The Quinnipiac women’s tennis team defeated Fairfield 4-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) semifinals on Apr. 24, securing a spot in the conference championship for the twelfth time since the 2013-14 season.

This victory is significant as it continues Quinnipiac’s strong record in league play and gives them an opportunity to compete for their ninth MAAC title. The Bobcats have maintained a winning streak of twelve matches and have won twenty consecutive MAAC matches, including both regular season and postseason contests dating back to last season.

Quinnipiac clinched the doubles point with wins from Anagha Shankar and Vera Sekerina at No. 2 doubles, and Caroline Schulson with Isabella Sicignano at No. 3 doubles—marking Schulson and Sicignano’s fourth MAAC doubles win this year. In singles play, Willow Renton remained undefeated in conference action with her fifteenth singles win of the season. Sekerina earned her eleventh singles victory, dominating her opponent in straight sets for her sixth consecutive such win, while Schulson secured her thirteenth singles match of the year to clinch overall victory for Quinnipiac.

“We are excited to be back in the championship match,” said Paula Miller, head coach of Quinnipiac women’s tennis. “Our players have worked hard all season long and deserve this opportunity.” This will be the first time since 2021 that Quinnipiac will not face Fairfield in the final round.

Looking ahead, Quinnipiac awaits either Mount St. Mary’s or Sacred Heart for Sunday’s championship match scheduled at Princeton University Racquet and Fieldhouse at 11:00 a.m.
