The Quinnipiac women’s golf team was selected on April 29 to compete in the Ann Arbor Regional of the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Tournament, according to an announcement made during the NCAA Selection Show. The event will take place at the University of Michigan Golf Course from May 11 to May 13, with one round scheduled each day.
This selection follows Quinnipiac’s recent victory at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship, their first since 2023. The Bobcats earned the #11 seed in their region, marking a program milestone as it is their first time being seeded eleventh in a regional tournament.
Head coach John O’Connor leads a squad that has won its second consecutive MAAC Championship and fifth title in seven years. The team finished this year’s championship with a combined score of 885 (+21), narrowly missing out on surpassing last year’s total by two strokes. For the second year running, Sophia Fujita claimed the McLeod Trophy for individual champion, recording a tournament score of 212 (-4). This achievement set a new MAAC Championships record and broke Fuge Zhang’s previous mark from 2023. Fujita also became the first golfer since Katelyn Mannix in 2008 and 2009 to win back-to-back McLeod Trophies.
Following regionals, qualifying teams and individuals will advance to compete at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California. The national championship is scheduled from May 22 through May 27. Teams will play three rounds of stroke play before determining which advance for further competition including match play for both team and individual titles.
The team’s progress highlights continued success within collegiate women’s golf tournaments and reflects positively on both players’ development and coaching leadership under O’Connor.
