The Quinnipiac women’s golf team will compete in the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season, taking part in the Ann Arbor Regional at the University of Michigan Golf Course beginning May 11. The Bobcats are scheduled to play 18 holes each day from Monday through Wednesday, alongside eleven other teams including USC, Duke, and Central Florida.
This appearance follows Quinnipiac’s recent success at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships, where they claimed their second straight conference title and seventh overall with a tournament total of 885 (+21). Sophia Fujita made history by becoming the first Bobcat to win the McLeod Trophy in back-to-back seasons and set a new MAAC record with her three-round total of 212 (-4).
For her performance, Fujita was named MAAC Player of the Year for a second consecutive year. Coach John O’Connor received recognition as MAAC Coach of the Year for his fifth time since joining the conference. “Sophia Fujita and Samantha Galantini earned All-MAAC First Team honors for the second straight season, while Marisa Flores was named to the All-MAAC First Team for the first time,” according to an announcement from April 20. Eight members of Quinnipiac’s squad also earned All-Academic status this year.
Throughout their spring campaign, Quinnipiac participated in six tournaments, achieving notable finishes such as third place at St. John’s Invitational and fifth place at Georgia State Invitational. In fall competition, highlights included a first-place finish at Lehigh Invitational led by Fujita’s individual crown.
Last season, Quinnipiac won its conference championship and advanced to its first NCAA Tournament appearance at Gold Canyon Regional in Arizona where they finished twelfth out of twelve teams.
