The Quinnipiac Bobcats defeated the Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers 4-3 in ten innings, according to an April 25 report. Peyton Vancas delivered the game-winning single, helping Quinnipiac improve its record to 19-22 overall and 10-10 in conference play.

This win was important for the Bobcats as it brought them back into the win column and set up a decisive third game against Mount St. Mary’s. The victory also showcased strong performances from several players on both offense and defense.

Chase Camac opened scoring for Quinnipiac with an RBI single that brought Alex Irizarry home for the first run of the game. James Marino added a two-run single up the middle two innings later, giving Quinnipiac a three-run lead. The Mountaineers responded in the seventh inning when Alex Mendes hit a bunt single that scored two runs, narrowing Quinnipiac’s lead to one run. In the eighth inning, Sam Meyer tied it up with a solo home run as a pinch-hitter for Mount St. Mary’s.

After nine innings, neither team had secured victory, sending the contest into extra innings. Matt Alduino held off Mount St. Mary’s in their half of the tenth before Vancas drove in Cole Constable with an RBI single to secure Quinnipiac’s win.

Eight different Bobcats recorded at least one hit during this extra-inning match-up against Mount St. Mary’s. Jack Balcer achieved multiple hits for his second consecutive game and sixteenth time this season; Constable went 2-for-4 including his third double of the year; Marino’s fourth-inning hit raised his season RBI total to twenty-nine; Camac recorded his eighteenth RBI of his first collegiate season; Irizarry scored twice and leads Quinnipiac with thirty-one runs this year; Andrew Rubayo pitched six-and-two-thirds innings allowing just two runs while striking out seven batters; Alduino earned his third win after pitching three final innings allowing only one run.

The teams will face each other again on April 26 at 1 PM for a winner-take-all series finale.
