The Quinnipiac men’s tennis team will face Niagara on April 18 for Senior Day at the QU Tennis Courts in Hamden, Conn., as the Bobcats look to secure a spot in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) tournament.
This match holds significance as it could determine Quinnipiac’s place in postseason play. The team is currently 4-3 in MAAC competition after a recent close win over Fairfield, where Elias Hoxha clinched a decisive victory.
Doubles partners Csanad Nyaradi and Vishal Prakash have notched their eighth win of the season, winning six of their last seven matches. Carlos Braun Simo has also shown strong form with a 10-4 singles record, including victories in six of his last seven outings. Hoxha and Alessandro Sciacca each earned their seventh singles wins this year, while Nyaradi picked up his fifth.
In ITA Regional Championships action, Braun Simo and Hoxha as well as Finn Burridge and Sciacca advanced to the round of 64 in doubles play. Braun Simo also won his main draw singles consolation match against Ethan Chung from Yale.
Last season, Quinnipiac claimed its second consecutive MAAC title by defeating Rider 4-1 in the championship match. Hoxha was named Most Outstanding Performer for clinching that victory. The Bobcats defeated Niagara in the semifinals before advancing to their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
Returning All-MAAC selections include Hoxha, Braun Simo, and Burridge. Notably, Hoxha maintained an undefeated record against MAAC opponents at 10-0.
