The Quinnipiac Bobcats baseball team split a doubleheader against the Rider Broncs in Hamden on May 8, closing out their home games for the 2026 regular season. The Bobcats won the first game 9-4 but fell in the second game by a score of 5-2. With these results, Quinnipiac moved to an overall record of 23-25 and a conference record of 14-13.
This series marked an important moment as it was the last home appearance for the team before they finish their regular season schedule. The games also offered players and fans an opportunity to reflect on individual performances and prepare for upcoming challenges.
In game one, after two scoreless innings, Rider took an early lead with a two-run single from Charley Magoulick. Quinnipiac responded in the third inning when Christian Smith hit a two-run homer to tie the game, followed by Chase Camac’s single that brought in two more runs. The teams traded runs until Kyle Garbowski’s sacrifice fly put Quinnipiac ahead again. Additional runs came from wild pitches and singles as Mike Poncini closed out the win for Quinnipiac.
Game two saw Rider take control early with three runs over three innings. Jack Balcer put Quinnipiac on the board in the fifth inning, but Rider extended its lead late in the game. A final run by Christian Smith could not close the gap before time ran out.
Six different Bobcats collected hits during both games, with five players recording multiple hits across both contests. Notably, Christian Smith went three-for-nine at bat with three RBIs and his seventh home run of the season—leading his team this year. Kyle Garbowski contributed three hits along with two runs scored and one RBI; he is now tied for second on his team in runs scored this season.
Looking ahead, Quinnipiac will end its regular season next weekend when they travel to North Andover, Massachusetts to face Merrimack Warriors in a three-game series.
