The Quinnipiac Bobcats defeated the Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers, 3-2, in the deciding game of their weekend series on Sunday afternoon in Hamden, according to an April 26 announcement. The win brings Quinnipiac’s record to 20-22 overall and 11-10 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.
This result is significant for the Bobcats as it keeps them in contention within the conference standings. With this victory, they currently sit in sixth place in the MAAC.
The game saw Quinnipiac take an early lead when Jack Balcer drove in Caden Williamson with a groundout in the first inning. The Mountaineers responded quickly with Cameron Biller doubling home Carson Clark to tie the score at one apiece. In a pivotal moment during the sixth inning, Chase Camac hit a two-run single that put Quinnipiac ahead for good at 3-1.
Mount St. Mary’s narrowed the gap by scoring on a walk after loading the bases in the eighth inning, making it a one-run contest. In a tense ninth inning, J.c. Franconere came out of the bullpen and secured his first save of the season by inducing a double play on his first pitch to end the game.
Five different Bobcats recorded hits during Sunday’s finale, with Camac leading offensively by going two-for-three and collecting his twentieth run batted in of this season. Nick Balcom started for Quinnipiac and allowed just one run over five innings pitched before Jacob Belecky earned his second win out of relief.
Looking ahead, Quinnipiac will remain at home next weekend as they host Fairfield Stags for another three-game conference series.
