The Quinnipiac baseball team lost to the Yale Bulldogs, 6-5, in a 12-inning game on April 15 in New Haven. With this result, the Bobcats’ record moved to 14-20 for the season, while Yale improved to 20-10.
The close contest mattered as it split the season series between Quinnipiac and Yale at one win each. The extended game saw both teams fighting for an edge over twelve innings before Yale secured victory with a walk-off hit.
Quinnipiac took an early lead with runs from Caden Williamson and James Marino in the first inning. Cole Constable added another run in the second after reaching base on an error. Ian Nilsen increased Quinnipiac’s advantage by hitting his first collegiate home run in the fourth inning. However, Yale responded with two runs in their half of that inning and continued to chip away at Quinnipiac’s lead through subsequent innings.
Caden Williamson provided what seemed like insurance for Quinnipiac with a single that scored Constable in the eighth inning, but Yale tied the game later that same frame. The score remained even until Colin Sloan delivered a walk-off hit for Yale in the bottom of the twelfth.
Six different Bobcats recorded hits during the loss, with Christian Smith going 2-for-6 and leading his team with thirteen doubles this year—a figure that also leads their conference. Kyle Garbowski contributed multiple hits as well and drove in his twentieth RBI of the season, tying him for third-most on his team. Williamson raised his batting average to .319 after recording two hits.
Looking ahead, Quinnipiac is scheduled to play a three-game series against Canisius starting Friday.
