David X. Sullivan, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that Christian Maximo Castaneda Negrete, a 47-year-old Peruvian citizen, was sentenced to six months in prison for illegally reentering the United States after being deported. U.S. District Judge Victor A. Bolden delivered the sentence in New Haven.

Court records show that Castaneda Negrete first entered the U.S. on a nonimmigrant visa in July 2001, which allowed him to stay for up to one year. In February 2004, he was convicted in Connecticut Superior Court in New Britain of burglary in the first degree and unlawful restraint. He received a six-year sentence, suspended after nine months served. In March 2012, authorities removed him to Peru.

Castaneda Negrete later returned to the U.S. without legal permission and was arrested by Hartford Police Department on November 20, 2024. At that time, he faced charges of sexual assault in the second degree.

The investigation was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Enforcement and Removal Operations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher J. Lembo prosecuted the case.

“This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime,” according to the announcement.
