A federal grand jury in New Haven indicted Thomas Marra, 55, of North Haven, on Apr. 1 for allegedly robbing a Webster Bank branch in Berlin on December 31, 2025, according to an announcement from David X. Sullivan, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut.
The case is significant because Marra was reportedly on federal supervised release at the time of the alleged robbery. He had previously been sentenced in May 2023 to five years in prison for a narcotics trafficking offense and was released from prison in June 2025.
According to the indictment, Marra faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted of bank robbery. He has been detained since his arrest on related state charges on January 7, 2026. The U.S. Attorney’s office also noted that Marra could face additional penalties if found to have violated conditions of his supervised release.
“An indictment is not evidence of guilt. Charges are only allegations, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt,” Sullivan said.
The investigation involves the Federal Bureau of Investigation as well as police departments from Berlin and North Haven. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Nathan J. Guevremont and Brendan J. Keefe are prosecuting the case.
